My Current Predicament

So for those of you who don’t know my situation let me try to explain really quickly. I left my job in November 2009 for reasons I won’t get into. I’ve been living on EI and some savings up until now. Everything has been going great but now my savings is running out and EI doesn’t cover all my expenses for the month. So I’ll be officially out of money by August.

My Expenses are:

So my predicament is I haven’t had a full summer off since I finished grade 11 and this one was supposed to be it. I had/have a trip to San Diego planned for Mid-August, my aunt is having a big birthday party so I plan on going out there with my family to enjoy California. Right now I see four things I can do to for August.

  1. Find a Full Time job again and stay in Vancouver. Though I’m not sure if I want to go back into the games industry… or if they’d take me back!
  2. Find a Part Time job [maybe at a retail store?], work the max amount I’m allowed in a week so EI doesn’t stop paying me. Which will mean I should have enough money for the trip. But I’ve never worked retail so who knows if anyone would want to hire me lol.
  3. Find a Contract job (web, games, something?) that will pay me more then EI can up until it is time for my Trip.
  4. The wildest idea… use my credit card to buy a mac & iphone/ipad and make some apps/games myself and see if I can make some money off of that.

I’m pretty sure I know what I’m going to do, but I felt like writing down what I’ve been thinking and wanted to see what people think. What would you do in my situation? Is there something else you would do other then what I’ve thought of? Let me know!

#4 super bad idea. Better to just live frugally the $ you would spend on that combo would last about as long. Unless you can make a game as fun as doodle jump or as addictive Flight Control…

As far as getting a whole summer off, that’s a pretty rare thing especially in your 20′s. Almost no one gets a whole summer off unless they are teachers. So there’s a plan; forget Cali if you can’t afford it, get your B. Ed, become a teacher and you will enjoy every summer off for the rest of your life!
